"2.5 peso" is a 1945 gold coin dedicated to the famous Mexican Catholic priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, who fought for the independence of Mexico from Spanish patronage.
Miguel Gregorio Antonio Ignacio Hidalgo y Costilla y Gallaga Mondarte Villaseñor is a clergyman and part-time ardent revolutionary who launched the war for the independence of his country. Recognized as a national hero and "Father of the Fatherland." The priest's famous call to take up arms was called the "Scream of Dolores." On the reverse "2.5 pesos" his proud profile is minted. The obverse adorns the traditional coat of arms of Mexico — an eagle sitting on a cactus that devours a snake.
