German Empire Gold Coin 20 Mark Wilhelm I (1871–1888), 7.17 g of 0.900 Fine Gold
Issued during the formative years of the unified German Empire, the coin features on the obverse a portrait of Wilhelm I, German Emperor and King of Prussia, surrounded by the inscription “WILHELM DEUTSCHER KAISER KÖNIG V. PREUSSEN.” The reverse displays the crowned Imperial Eagle within the legend “DEUTSCHES REICH,” the year-date, and the denomination “20 MARK.” The edge bears the historic motto “GOTT MIT UNS.” With a gross weight of 8 g and a thickness of approximately 1.5 mm, the 20 Mark gold coin remains one of the most recognizable European imperial gold coins of the late nineteenth century, valued for both its historical significance and gold content.
